October — Cahaya
Drake’s back.
Dad’s happy, of course. Akiko’s acting like he only went away for the weekend. I don’t know how they do that. Maybe they’ve forgotten how things were when he left. I haven’t.
He showed up with his bags and that same look on his face. Like he’s waiting for someone to tell him he doesn’t belong here. I don’t know what he expected. Dad was never going to turn him away.
Dad keeps saying things worked out for the best. Maybe they did. We lost the business, found our footing, and moved on. At least that’s how he sees it. I remember what it took to get here.
I suppose I should be glad he’s home. He’s my brother, after all. I guess I could never hate him but I mourned him years ago.
Anyway, Dad asked me to help him get settled. So I will.
Doesn’t mean we have to talk about anything.
